Animal control looking for two dogs after vicious mauling

NEVADA -- Las Vegas Animal Control is searching for a woman and two shepherd like dogs after a vicious mauling in a northwest neighborhood.

Karen Rowe claims those two dogs attacked her small dog during a morning stroll. It happened on Jasmine Garden Drive, near Lake Mead and Rampart.

Rowe says her 14-year-old dog's jugular vein was left exposed, and veterinarians told her he could've died if she hadn't shielded him.

Shortly after the attack, Rowe claims the woman responsible for the aggressive canines fled the area.

Animal Control knocked on the door of the home where they came from but nobody answered. Officers posted a note on the door, demanding that she bring them the two animals. The notes reads that legal action will be taken.

"I would've expected something more from an adult. When something this awful happens, you feel bad, you apologize. Minimal, lets cover the vet bills," said Karen Rowe, whose arm was bitten in the attack.

Karen Rowe and her husband Craig say they've never seen these two dangerous canines before.

The dogs and the woman who was caring from them emerged from a home only a couple of doors down from theirs.

According to the Rowes, they haven't returned since.

It's unclear if there's anybody currently living in the house. However, records indicate it is not in foreclosure.

"Think about what you put our dog through. It's another living creature," said Craig Rowe.

Al is back at home after days on an IV, under the constant care of veterinarians. The Rowes fear he may never emotionally recover from what happened.

They're also worried that the dogs that did this could attack again.

"Usually there's some warning signs that there's going to be aggression, hair goes up, ears go back, they growl or something. This didn't even occur. They basically came right at us and attacked," explained Karen Rowe.

Karen Rowe says the woman responsible for the two dogs managed to get one under control. Rowe claims she had to push the other off her 25 pound dog with the weight of her body.

"Finally, I just used my body and got it against it and pushed it off. That's when it bit me," she added.

She says the dog chased her all the way to her front door.

The attack happened back on December 5th. It's unclear if Las Vegas Animal Control has made any progress in tracking down the woman and her dogs.

The note left on the door of the home on Jasmine Garden Drive specifies that officers need to get confirmation of rabies vaccinations.

Action News has placed numerous calls into Las Vegas Animal Control to get an update on the case. Those phone calls have not yet been returned.
