Mum’s terror at dog attack

UNITED KINGDOM -- A mum has told of her terror as she was attacked by two Rottweiler-type dogs while out with her granddaughter and her own dog.

Sharon Adams, 48, suffered shocking injuries, including a thigh wound which needed 20 stitches.

She is warning other parents to keep their children away from the scene of the attack in the park off Longbarn Lane, Whitley, until the dogs are caught.

Ms Adams, who has a visual impairment and has battled breast cancer, said: “I’m so scared that some kids could get hurt over there.”

The mum of four was taking her dog for a walk with her granddaughter at about 1.50pm last Wednesday when she saw two men throwing a ball for a dog.

She walked over to offer them a spare dog ball thrower she had with her, but then realised they could not understand her.

Ms Adams, of Kingsbridge Road, Whitley, said: “I turned round to walk off, I was about 200 yards away from them and 400 yards from the gate to get out and I could hear this snarling and I knew the dogs were coming towards me.

“I thought ‘You are meant to stay still’, but they jumped on the back of me and started clawing me.

“One grabbed my arm and the other the inside of my thigh. I knew my only option was to get over the fence, so I ran and they were hanging on until I got on to the fence and they slipped from my thick coat.”

She continued: “Adrenalin got me over that fence.

“I’m 48 and disabled so for me to get over that fence was a miracle.

“I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn’t and a child could have been killed. They wanted my blood.”

Ms Adams’ granddaughter and her dog were the other side of the fence and she quickly got them to safety.

She went to Royal Berkshire Hospital where she needed 20 stitches in her thigh wound.

The brave mum, who successfully took on Facebook when it removed pictures showing her mastectomy scar after an operation in 2009, said she is now left angry with the owners for not controlling their dogs.

Reading police are investigating. The rottweilers were wearing silver chains and were with two men and a woman who are possibly of Eastern European origin.
