Ohio woman recovering after being mauled by her own dog

OHIO -- A 63-year-old Lorain woman is recovering after getting mauled by her pet pit bull.

The woman's brother-in-law, Larry McCoy, said she had puncture wounds all over her body.

"Her face, dislocated her finger, bit her arm all up. Bit a hole in her side and her stomach. It was terrible," he said. McCoy lives next door and got a call from his sister-in-law screaming that she was covered in blood. He ran over with a stick in his hand to see what happened.

"The dog was sitting right next to her growling," he said.

McCoy said he took the dog, named Brutus, outside and called 911. The dog warden arrived and shot the pit bull with a tranquilizer dart.

Mary McCoy was taken to the hospital and her brother-in law still doesn't know what exactly happened.

"She was coming outside to get her mail and the dog just went off on her, I guess. I don't know what the reason was," he said. The victim had a beware of dog sign at her front door, but Larry Mccoy said the dog never really showed any signs of aggression.

"He was a sweetheart. He really was," said McCoy.

But this attack is one too many for McCoy.

"I know one thing, I won't be messing with pit bulls no more."

Mary McCoy is listed in good condition at a Cleveland hospital. The dog is in the Lorain County Pound right now and will be quarantined for 10 days.

Lorain County officials say that's when a decision will be made on whether the dog is euthanized or will go back with it's owner.
