Apple Valley woman taken to hospital after dog attack

CALIFORNIA -- A woman was taken to a hospital Tuesday after she was bitten by her son's dog.

The first report, which claimed the woman had been attacked by a strange dog, caused fear with law enforcement officials and throughout the neighborhood.

"The first reported attack had the victim being attacked by a pit bull and that pit bull was running lose in the streets," said San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller. "We thought that there was this vicious dog that was a threat to public safety."

The incident happened about 10:40 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 15800 block of Chehalis Road.

When sheriff's deputies arrived, they launched a search for the dog, which they believed was somewhere in the neighborhood.

During the investigation, officials discovered the dog actually belonged to the woman's son and the attack had happened in the family's home.

"The report doesn't mention finding the dog but officials are still investigating," Miller said.

The victim had wounds on her arm and legs, hand and foot, Miller said.

Officials arrested the unidentified man for obstructing a police officer.
