UNITED KINGDOM -- A 90-YEAR-OLD woman watched in horror as her blind pet was savaged by a Labrador close to the children’s play area in a Long Sutton park.
Doris Dossetter, of Lancaster Drive, Long Sutton, said her dog George – a Chinese Crested Powder Puff – had to have emergency treatment following Sunday’s attack.
She said: “We were near the children’s play area and the youngsters were absolutely terrified. My dog was screaming.
“This dog came bounding over from a couple who were walking there and it just attacked my dog so badly that it was bleeding like mad and it has torn a lump out of his tummy.”
Mrs Dossetter drove to Cinder Ash Park at around 2pm, a daily routine.
The yellow Labrador or Labrador cross that attacked George rolled so fast with him Mrs Dossetter couldn’t use her walking stick to separate them.
When the attack ended, Mrs Dossetter tucked her stick under her arm and “staggered” back to her car with George in her arms.
She used pads to stem the blood flow but called a vet who took George to Hunstanton for an emergency operation.
As well as suffering shock, the great grandmother must find £800 from her savings to pay for George’s treatment.
Mrs Dossetter said George won’t be able to do go for walks for four weeks while he recovers and must have regular check-ups at the vet’s.
The park has signs saying dogs must be kept on leads – George was on a lead but the Labrador wasn’t – and Mrs Dossetter was too upset to get the owners’ name and address.
She said: “The woman said ‘what are you going to do about it?’ I thought it sounded rather harsh. I was very worried about George and asked her to go away.”
George was blind when Mrs Dossetter got him from a rescue centre five years ago and he’s now about 12 years old.
