NORTH CAROLINA -- A Lexington man faces two felonies and other charges in connection with the
deaths of two dogs who police say starved to death.
The Dispatch of Lexington reported that 64-year-old Anthony Dupree Jr. is
charged with two felony counts of killing an animal by starvation and
misdemeanor cruelty to animals for the deaths of two Rottweilers.
He also faces
two misdemeanor charges of violating the city’s new animal ordinance about
housing dogs.
Dupree was being held Saturday in the Davidson County Detention Center under
a $5,000 secured bond. He has a Jan. 31 court date.
Police Lt. Robby Rummage says a malnourished pit bull mix was seized from the
home and is being cared for.
A jail spokeswoman says Dupree has an attorney but declined to release that
name.
