Pit bull attacks Austin man

TEXAS -- Police confirm a 54-year-old man in Northeast Austin was attacked by a pit bull, possibly suffering critical injuries.

Emergency officials confirmed a pit bull attack happened in the 6700 block of Tulsa Cove around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The report that came in to police was that the man had been bitten in the knee and elbow.

Medics said that unnamed man's condition is potentially critical, and he was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge.

The dog was contained to a room in the house, said police. At that point, Animal Control was called out to the house.

Austin Animal Services said on Monday that the dog, a young male neutered pit bull mix, is in custody at the shelter and an investigation is underway.

The victim was also not the owner, but he did live in the same house as the owner.  Animal Services is in the process of talking with the owner of the dog to determine what happens next.

Neighbors told KXAN News that the homeowner recently got a dog. Another pit bull attack recently happened in the same University Hills neighborhood.
