Pit Bull Killed After Attacking State Police Dog

NEW JERSEY -- Trenton police shot and killed a pit bull that attacked a state police dog and also charged at an officer when authorities raided four homes in a city neighborhood.

The shooting occurred Thursday in a North Trenton neighborhood.

Officials say a state police tactical team was assisting Trenton police with the raids when the pit bull went after the police dog, which apparently was not seriously injured.

A Trenton officer shot at the pit bull to protect the police dog. But the pit bull then charged at another city officer who fired the shots that killed the animal.

Further details on the matter, including who owned the dog, were not disclosed.
