Police on look out for owner of pit bull

WASHINGTON --Police are looking for the owner of a dog after multiple reports of canine confrontations in Mount Vernon, including a bite that sent one man to the hospital.

Officers responded at about 3 p.m. Friday to the 300 block of La Venture Road after a man and woman struggled with a threatening black pit bull mix, Mount Vernon Lt. Chris Cammock said.

When the dog reportedly tried to attack the woman, the man attempted to fight the dog off and took a “pretty deep bite” to his leg and ankle area, causing him to require urgent care treatment, Cammock said.

Other people walking in the area reported similar confrontations with the dog, which growled at passers-by, according to reports.

Anyone with information on the dog or its owner is advised to contact the Mount Vernon Police Department animal control officer at 360-336-6271 during business hours or call the 24-hour dispatch line at 360-428-3211.
