GEORGIA -- A Marietta man is in jail after he allegedly watched and laughed while his pit bull attacked a woman last week.
Jason R. Tucker, 35, was arrested Wednesday on charges of misdemeanor reckless conduct.
According to a warrant, the pit bull attacked the woman for about 10 minutes while Tucker watched and laughed.
The victim told police the dog bit her arms, hands and right ankle.
Officer David Baldwin with the Marietta Police Department said he believed that the victim and Tucker were dating but was not sure if they lived together at the residence on Franklin Road where the attack was reported.
“It sounded like she had come over, the two got into an argument early (Jan. 18), and when she was going to leave the dog attacked her — it was a good-sized pit bull,” Baldwin said. “I don’t believe the owner tried to pull the dog off immediately, and she was bitten quite awhile before she was able to get the dog off.”
Baldwin said the victim drove herself to the hospital.
Tucker remains in the Cobb County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
Tom Flynn with the Cobb County Animal Control said the dog was brought to the shelter for quarantine, not because it bit the victim but because Tucker was arrested and the dog had no one to care for it.
Flynn would not say if he considered pit bulls dangerous, but said blame for attacks by any dog should be placed on the owner.
“The bigger the dog, the more damage it can do, but having said that, there are no rules in Cobb County that say (pit bulls) are outlawed,” he said. “The owner has a responsibility for maintaining the safety of the dog and the safety to the public.”
