Springfield woman attacked by her own dogs

MASSACHUSETTS -- Springfield police say a city woman needed treatment at a hospital after getting attacked by her own dogs.

Police say the 51-year-old woman was out walking her two put bulls at about 7 a.m. Thursday when they turned on her.

Officers found the woman running down the street suffering from bleeding bite wounds to her stomach, arms and legs. The two dogs had by then turned on each other, with the larger animal mauling the smaller.

Police put the smaller dog in a cruiser to protect it from the larger one, which was caught by animal control officers. Both dogs were taken to an animal hospital.

The woman was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center.

Police could not say why the dogs attacked their owner.
