UNITED KINGDOM -- A dog which attacked its owner after she suffered a fatal heart attack has been destroyed, police have confirmed.
The five-month-old Bullmastiff Cross belonged to Cassandra Smith, 49, who was found dead in her flat.
Her daughter Kayleigh, 21, found her body in her bedroom in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, on Tuesday.
A post mortem revealed the mother of five died from natural causes before the dog's attack.
A police spokeswoman said: "It established the injuries were caused after she had died.
"A juvenile dog has been destroyed following consultation with the family. An elderly German Shepherd in another room was not involved in the incident."
Cassie's death was originally reported as the result of a dog attack by the family's pet Alsatian. This was untrue and we apologise for our original report.
The family said: "She was our mum and our best friend with a heart of gold."
