Canada: Dog killed at doggie day care but owner not told

CANADA -- A tragic outcome for a family who entrusted their precious dog to a boarding service who promised nothing but the best for their pet.

February 7th, Peggy and Luc Ranger left their Shih-tzu Stanley at Montreal Dogs on Namur, as they've done for years, expecting to pick him up at the end of the day.

But owner Mina Carbone had some bad news,  said Stanley had gotten out.  She even helped with the search, even offered a $5,000 reward for his return, all the while knowing he had been mauled and killed that same day by two other dogs.

Peggy's twin Penny says they suspected something was up, so they hired an animal rescue called Urgences-Animales.  That's when the charade was up.  Two days ago there was a call from Montreal Dog's co-owner Mina.

"She hysterically told Luc's son, that Stanley was not stolen, Stanley did not escape through an open door.  That Stanley had been mauled to death".  said Penny.

Montreal Dog's other co-owner Cesare Carbone says it wasn't their intention to lie.

"It was to try and spare her the shock and minimize the pain and suffering."  said Carbone.

When asked why they continued to lie to the client for a week, Montreal Dogs says it was a mistake, and it will never happen again.

Meantime Peggy and Luc Ranger say they came forward so this kind of thing never happens again.
