UNITED KINGDOM -- A HELPLESS schoolboy was left with horrific facial injuries after being savaged by a huge dog at his pal's house.
The 11-year-old was rushed to hospital following the sickening attack by the powerful Japanese Akita.
He was visiting his friend in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, when the powerful hound — which was kept as a family pet — pounced. The beast was later destroyed by a vet.
Last night local councillor Mike Raeburn said: "I'm appalled and distressed by this attack.
"I hope this young lad is able to make a full recovery from this horrifying ordeal."
Paramedics treated the lad at the scene of Thursday's 3pm mauling before he was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Grampian Police said no one has been charged over the incident.
A spokesman added: "We are making inquiries into an incident where an 11-year-old boy was attacked by a dog. He suffered serious facial injuries."
The animal's owner is said to be Alma Ainslie-Davies. Last night neighbours described her as a "lovely woman". One shocked local said: "She always took her dog out on a leash. It was a lovely dog. The only time I heard it was when it barked at the postie."
Recent NHS Grampian stats show over 800 people were hurt by dogs in the last two years including 189 aged under 14.
