SOUTH CAROLINA -- A man has has been accused of dangling a child above a pit bull in retaliation for dirt being kicked near his car.
Police arrested Michael Chavis Jr. from Lancaster, Pennsylvania yesterday for allegedly holding the five-year-old above an 'aggressive, chained pit bull.'
Officers say they were called to Hazel Street on January 15 in reference an assault on a young child.
Witnesses told them that children in the area had kicked dirt near the man's car and cursed at him before he picked a child up and dangled him above the dog.
The pit bull was able to get a hold of the child's shirt, but the child was not bitten, police told WBTV on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old is charged with third-degree assault and battery.
The dog breed is infamous for its menacing nature, though not all of the species exhibit such characteristics.
Police say Chavis is also wanted for failing to appear in court on a different charge.
Lancaster Police records show that Chavis has been arrested for 23 different crimes, including Wednesday's arrest.
His charges vary from traffic violations, disorderly conduct, threatening the life of a public official, instigating a riot, resisting arrest, drug charges, discharging a firearm in the city, assault and battery with intent to kill and multiple assault and battery charges,' reported wistv.com.
