Mauled Toddler to Stay in Foster Care

TEXAS -- An 18-month-old boy who was attacked by four boxers as his parents slept will remain in foster care through March 21, a judge ruled Friday.

Children's Protective Services spokeswoman Marissa Gonzales says Chance Walker, Jr. is recovering from being mauled but will need special care.

The boy's maternal grandmother, Dorena Lawson, told FOX 4 that she wants custody of the child.
CPS will conduct a home study on Lawson and present its findings at the next hearing in March.

The toddler's parents, Chance Walker, Sr. and Patricia Walker, were arrested Thursday on charges of injury to a child.

Police believe the father, 25, and mother, 23, knew their son could get out of his playpen could reach the aggressive dogs.

Chance Jr. was attacked Jan. 30 when he crawled through a doggie door at his paternal grandparents' home and into a back yard where seven dogs lived. Four of the dogs were put to sleep by Fort Worth animal services.

A CPS affidavit says the next day, Chance's mother Patricia tested positive for methamphetamines. Chance Sr. refused to be tested.

Both parents remain in the Tarrant County jail on $100,000 bond each.
