CANADA -- A young boy was taken to hospital after he was bitten by a family dog in Fort Saskatchewan.
The incident happened just before midnight Saturday.
The three-and-a-half-year-old boy was given seven stitches to his head and was back home on Sunday.
His mother said he was alone in the kitchen when the dog bit him on the head.
She told CTV News when she rushed into the room the dog bit her twice in the arm.
The dog, which weighs about 100 pounds, was rescued by the family two months ago.
They said the dog had not been aggressive before this but have surrendered him to animal control.
Animal control confirms they have taken the dog, which will be put to sleep.
Neighbours said they were happy with the decision.
"Aggressive dogs have no place around kids," Clayton Lucier said.
"I'm glad the little boy is doing is okay. That's my first concern and also I'm kinda glad that the dog has been dealt with," he added.
The family did not want to release the breed of the dog, explaining they didn't believe the breed was the issue.
They said they "thought" the dog may have been abused prior to them owning it.
RCMP said there will not been any charges or investigation into the matter as the dog was taken away at the family's request.
