Woman receives major injuries in Sioux City dog attack

IOWA -- A Sioux City woman and a teenager were hospitalized Friday after they were bitten by a dog that police said is a pit bull.

Sioux City police said the woman put the dog in her garage about 3:13 p.m. when it became excited as two men made a delivery at her home in the 1700 block of South Nicollet Street.

The woman was attacked by her dog and suffered bites to her face when she attempted to go into the garage during the delivery, police said.

A 19-year-old who was helping with the delivery was bitten on the arm when he attempted to pull the dog off the woman, police said.

Both the woman and teenager were transported to Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The dog was taken into custody by animal control, police said.

Additional details were not available.
