According to animal control reports, she was attacked by two pit bulls chained together by a 4-5 foot chain. Her neighbors, Cody and Cole Sexton heard her cries and rushed to help.
"It was pretty scary, it was pretty aggressive," said Cody, "They were chained together and they were wrapped around her so they were trying to beat them off."
Thursday, Seymour's sister-in-law Mary had the opportunity to thank the good Samaritans. Though they succeeded in getting the dogs away and giving assistance until help arrived, Seymour had blood transfusions and will most likely face more surgery.
"Everything is going to depend on the next two or three days how it comes out," said Mary, "I don't think she realizes the severity."
She is in stable condition. Mary says it's thanks to the Sexton family.
"If they hadn't come to her aid I'm sure it would have been a lot worse," she said.
The dogs' owner Christopher Juarez declined to go on camera, but he spoke to 9 On Your Side reporter Jessica Chapin.
"we tried to do everything to keep them contained," he said. Neighbors told 9 On Your Side they had escaped the yard before.
Chapin asked why he chained the dogs together. He said it was the only way to keep them contained, adding, "I didn't know what else to do."
Juarez says they are very concerned for Seymour, and says the dogs hadn't displayed aggressive behavior before. He immediately turned them over to animal control, where they wait in quarantine.
"I have to take the responsibility as a pet owner," he said. Juarez also said he doesn't plan on owning multiple dogs in the future, and plans to pay Seymour's medical expenses.
