Pit bulls attack other dogs in Oakland County

MICHIGAN -- Several pit bull attacks on other dogs have occurred this week in Oakland County.

Police in Oakland County said 8 attacks have happened in the past week. The attacks on other dogs have happened in Royal Oak, Ferndale and Birmingham.

The most recent attack in Ferndale happened to a family walking their dog down the street when a pit bull charged at them.

Parish Shah said his dog, Abby, was attacked by a pit bull named Knucklehead.

"The pit bull came at us from like three houses in front of us, (Abby) got in front of us and the pit bull, in between us, and the pit bull mauled her," Shah said.

Abby was protecting her owner and ended up taking a beating. She is covered with stitches and has two drainage tubes after undergoing life-saving surgery.

"God, she hobbled away a few houses and she laid down and she was squirting blood. And she was never whining or screaming, 'cause that's just not how she is," said Shah.

The pit bull's owners were not at their Ferndale home when Local 4 stopped by Thursday for comment. Police said they were ticketed for having a dangerous animal.

The dog and other pit bulls were being held by Animal Control in Oakland County.

Abby is doing well and will make a full recovery.

"We don't need a dog like that in our neighborhood," Shah said.

In all the recent attacks, no people have been hurt or attacked by the pit bulls.

Each case is being investigated uniquely. However, each pit bull owner received a ticket for harboring a dangerous animal.
