TEXAS -- Lucille Westrum can't talk about her companion of 12 years without getting choked up. She says little Jacques Pierre, a toy poodle, was mauled to death on Wednesday morning by her neighbor's four pit bulls.
The dogs allegedly knocked a hole in the fence and attacked the Jacques Pierre. Westrum said the dogs came after her, too, but that she warded them off with a wooden chair.

"I heard kind of a scuffle and I heard a yelp," she said. "I knew he was dead, so I started screaming for someone to help me please."
By the time her neighbor heard her cries, it was too late. The damage had already been done. Jacques Pierre was dead.
"He was just all mangled," Westrum said.

Westrum said the dogs had broken into her yard twice before, and that the owner promised to secure the fence but never stayed true to his word.
"He was very remorseful, he was sorry that that happened," Westrum said. "But I mean, that doesn't get [Jacques Pierre] back."

Westrum said she reported the dogs to police and animal control and they did nothing about the animals.
Animal control was unable to be reached for comment before the end of the business day on Wednesday.
