Toddler Loses Finger In Dog Attack

CALIFORNIA -- A dog attack Wednesday evening in Stockton left a toddler without his left index finger, according to police.

On Thursday, the boy's family told KCRA 3 the police aren't taking their case seriously enough.

Officers said the 18-month-old boy was playing in his grandmother's backyard when he stuck his finger through the fence and the neighbor's pit bull bit it off.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, but doctors were unable to re-attach his finger.

More than 24 hours after the family filed a police report, Stockton police admitted evidence technicians hadn't been out to take pictures of the boy's hand.

"They need to better prioritize. A baby losing part of an appendage is very serious," the boy's grandmother Terisa Catrina said. "I know murder, robbery, shootings, they are very serious too, but that is something my grandson is going to have to live with for the rest of his life. And that needs to be addressed."

Police told KCRA 3 they've been too busy dealing with higher priority calls. They said they will send an evidence technician as soon as one is available.

In the meantime, the pit bull has been quarantined.
