TEXAS -- A 21-year-old man was bitten in the neck by a tan and white pit bull at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 2800 block of Gin Road near Telferner.
The man was looking at a car belonging to Wayne Countryman, 57, when Countryman's unrestrained pit bull attacked the man.
"They had come to see one of my cars," Countryman said. " I generally have my dog on a chain, but not today."
The injured man was driven by private vehicle to the Telferner Store. From there, a Victoria Fire Department ambulance took him to Citizens Medical Center for treatment, said Victoria County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Terry Simon.
He was in stable condition, but was expected to be kept overnight as a precaution, a family member said.
The dog was euthanized by Victoria City-County Animal Control, said Chief Animal Control Officer Joe Lopez.
It was sent for rabies testing Tuesday afternoon.
