Mendota officer recovering after dog attack

ILLINOIS -- A Mendota police officer is recovering after being attacked by a dog while responding to a call in the north-central Illinois community.

WGLC Radio reports that the attack happened Wednesday while officers were talking to residents about an aggressive German Shepherd that was running loose in the area.

Police say that's when the dog attacked one of the officers and dragged her to the ground. The officers shot the dog to stop the attack, and a veterinarian later euthanized the animal.

The incident remains under investigation.
