NEW YORK -- Animal control officers have seized three pit bulls after a vicious attack that sent a Buffalo man to the hospital on Thursday.
Sheila Williams has lived in this east side neighborhood on Landon Street near Fillmore Avenue for over 20 years. She was leaving her house when she looked out her truck window in horror.
Williams said, "It was terrifying. This man was in the middle of the street and he walks with a limp and the dogs were literally latched on to his leg and he was trying to get them off and we were standing out here in fear, like, 'Oh my God, these dogs are biting this man like this.'"
The dogs at one point let go. Williams asked the 63-year-old man if he was okay and called the police.
"I got on the phone and I called them right back and I said, 'You need to send somebody right now because these dogs are still out and they were standing in the middle of the street like they wanted to come back up and finish him off.'"
News 4 was on the scene when police were trying to capture the dogs. Officers had their guns drawn as Buffalo Animal Control officers collared the animals. Two dogs were roaming freely, while a third that is pregnant was chained up. All three were seized.
It's unclear if Buffalo Police have tracked down the owner of the dogs and whether or not charges will filed.
The man was taken to Buffalo General Hospital with serious injuries to his legs.
A Lancaster Police officer was also attacked by a dog on Thursday.
Authorities say as the officer was trying to clear people out of the stone quarry, an Italian Bull Mastiff came after the officer and the officer shot him in the mouth, killing the animal.
