Officer Kills Pit Bull While Responding To 911 Call

ARKANSAS -- A Benton County sheriff's officer killed a pit bull while responding to a 911 call at a house near Scenic Drive.

Doug Gay, a Benton County Sheriff's Department spokesman, said the deputy was using a GPS to find where a 911 call was made from on Sunday near Scenic Drive.

The officer saw a red flag covering an open door on a building near the back of the property. Gay said the officer pulled back the flag, heard moaning, and saw a man on a couch watching television.

The officer asked the man to come outside to talk, and a pit bull then attacked the officer, Gay said.

The officer reported that the dog attacked him on the foot first, and then bit his knee and then his wrist and left arm.

Gay said the officer shot the dog once, and it ran off and died later.
