MICHIGAN -- An eight-year-old girl is hospitalized after being attacked by a Pit Bull in Munising Township. According to the Alger County Sheriff's Office, the incident happened at 4:20 p.m. Friday on Carmody Road.
Paramedics treated the girl for multiple punctures and lacerations from dog bites. She was taken to Munising Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Marquette General.
A 23-year-old man who recently moved to the area from Wisconsin owns the dog. He was staying at the residence where the girl had been arriving after school.
The dog was loose and unattended at the time of the attack. Authorities say it appears the attack was unprovoked.
Deputies took custody of the Pit Bull. The court will determine the fate of the dog after the investigation is complete.
The owner was arrested on drug related charges. His name is being withheld pending arraignment.
The case is under review by the prosecutor's office to determine if additional charges will be filed.
