Deputies find emaciated pit bull, charge owner

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Lexington man has been charged with cruelty to animals after an emaciated pit bull was found at an abandoned residence.

Kevin Briggs Rachels, 37, of 275 Apt. D2, Hinkle Lane, charged with cruelty to animals and abandonment of an animal. He received a $1,000 secured bond and his next count appearance is June 26 in Lexington District Court.


Deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday to 186 Stratford Road in reference to a welfare check on the homeowner, Kevin Rachels. When deputies arrived, they noticed that the residence appeared to be abandoned.

During their investigation, they noticed the emaciated pit bull inside the residence. After making contact with Rachels, deputies charged him.
