Macon police officer shoots dog

GEORGIA -- A Macon police officer shot a pitbull at 11:54 a.m. Sunday morning after responding to a domestic dispute in the 300 block of Hydrolia Street.

The dog charged at Officer Anita Harrell. She yelled at the dog to stop, but it kept moving toward her, showing its teeth, according to a police report released Monday.

Harrell backed into a thorny bush and fell down. As she fell, the dog kept coming toward her and she shot the dog, according to the report.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The dog’s owner told police he’d take his dog to a veterinarian, according to the report.
