Ohio: Mardie Biederman, 43, put dog inside cage and drowned it

OHIO -- The owner of a dog that was found in a cage in Grand Lake St. Marys has been charged in connection to the case.

Mardie L. Biederman, 43, of Panama City, Florida, is facing two charges related to the case, including failure to report an attack by a dog to the Auglaize County Board of Health and failure to take a deceased dog to the Auglaize County Board of Health for examination, according to Auglaize County Dog Warden Russ Bailey.

Bailey said that Biederman shot the dog after it bit a family member's guest, put it in the cage and dumped it into the lake.

"This is not a case of neglect in my opinion, but still, laws were violated and that's why we're pursuing (charges)," Bailey said.

The cage with the dog still in it was found in a corner of a lake near a campground. The dog appeared to have been in the water for a while and was wearing a collar.
