Burkburnett police say dog left to die

TEXAS -- Burkburnett police met animal control officers in the 400 block of North Holly in reference to an animal cruelty call on July 14.

The homeowner stated the tenants abandoned the property two weeks before July 14 and he discovered a dog was left in the backyard.

Roxanne Marie Arredondo, 23, was arrested in reference to the animal being left on the property.

According to the affidavit:

Animal control officers showed police the animal, which was barely alive. One of the animal control officers told the officer "its condition was the worst he had ever seen and to prepare" himself.

The officer observed two small empty dishes the size of microwaveable potpie tins and "what appeared to be a dog lying on the steps that led to the back door of the house."

Most of the dog's fur was missing and it was covered with large sores where skin appeared to be missing.

Bones protruded from the dog, who seemed emaciated and dehydrated. The dog barely moved and did not respond to any human interaction.

Due to the dog's frail condition, animal control officers had to carry the dog to their truck. The breed was undeterminable, but it was determined the dog was a male.

Arredondo is charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals-torture. Bond was set at $5,000. She has since posted bond.
