UNITED KINGDOM -- Three members of the same family were taken to hospital with "significant" bites after their pet Staffordshire bull terrier attacked them in their home.
Police were called to a house in Newquay after the family rang them to report the dog was out of control.
According to officers the animal had sunk its teeth into the trio before they managed to shut it in the garden.
They told officers the animal had become "increasingly snappy" and they felt they could no longer deal with its aggression.
Following a discussion between police and the family the decision was taken to call in a vet to put the animal to sleep.
The three people, from Trevenson Road in the town, were taken to The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, Truro, where they were treated for their wounds.
The attack is the second to take place in Cornwall in a matter weeks by the breed.
Last month a young woman in the Mylor Bridge area of Falmouth was left with a gaping hole in her leg which required surgery after she was savaged by a Staffordshire bull terrier.
Suzy Powell, 19, from Devoran, near Truro, was home from university in Manchester when she found the animal sitting in the middle of the road and tried to help it before it turned on her and attacked.
The dog was later caught and destroyed.
