Oklahoma: Dog feces spotted in purse leads to animal rescue of Boston Terriers from trailer full of hoarded dogs

OKLAHOMA -- An animal rescue team was called out to a Logan County home to rescue several Boston Terrier dogs and puppies after feces was spotted in a woman’s purse.

Friends of Guthrie Animal Shelter (FOGAS) went to a home in the 1500 block of Andy’s Acres, located on South Pine, early Tuesday morning to rescue the dogs and puppies. However, majority of them had to be euthanized.

It is uncertain on the exact number of dogs found in the home, but sources tell Guthrie News Page there were over 50 animals.

Unfortunately, the source said, 43 dogs had to be put down (euthanized). The others have been placed into foster care.

A hospital notified adult family protection after they noticed dog feces inside the purse of a lady on Monday. Staff members noted a smell and what appeared to be feces on the lady.

FOGAS leaders described the situation as a “hoarder situation” and believe the dogs had never been outside the trailer home.

“We had to rip out sheet rock and get animals out of the the walls. We had to watch our step – the floor had holes,” President and Founder of FOGAS Von Coburn said. “Three volunteers were hurt by the animals.”

Living conditions inside the home were described as “awful”. One volunteer suggested the home needed to be bulldozed.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is now investigating the case to see if charges will be filed.

Three local vet doctors, including Vet Corner’s Dr. Zinn along with Guthrie Pet Hospital’s Dr. Travis and Dr. Coffin helped FOGAS volunteers: Von Coburn, Theresa Wehr, Paula Brittian, Sally Westmoreland, Craig Watts, Stacey Watts, Donna Coffin, Tracey Thorton and Jarred Young with the rescue.
