Woman attacked by pit bull during walk

ARIZONA -- A Phoenix mother is out of the hospital after putting herself between a pit bull and two young children.

The attacked happened Monday near 12th Street and Campbell.

This family had just moved to the neighborhood. When the dog approached, victim Suzanne Lamont got in front of the pit bull.

The dog bit her on her arm. Doctors wrapped up the arm, but underneath the bandages, you can see the small puncture wounds from the dog's bite.

The victim was walking to school with her sister and their kids and somehow the dog got out.

"First time I put my arm out saying 'don't get me.' Second time I threw all my papers at it cause that's all I had on me," says Suzanne.

"Next thing you know it is running over to my nephew and I was like 'no no no.' That is when I told my sister 'I am bleeding call 911.'"

Suzanne Lamont got in between the 1-year-old female pit pull and the kids who were terrified.

Little Jacob Lamont says, "I was shaking."

Luckily the kids weren't hurt.

"I was just protecting my son cause he is little, he is petite he is tiny. Anything could have happened to him or my nephew. Instead I did it."

The dog's owner says this attack was a first.

"It's never bitten anybody or anything ever," says owner Joe Winland.

"You can't have a dog that will bite somebody you just can't. I would never want to have a dog that would hurt somebody. That is not what the dog is for."

Animal control took the dog. The owner gave her up willingly. It will be likely be put down.
