Dog bites owners and two police officers in western Independence

MISSOURI -- Independence police encountered a vicious German shepherd when they responded to a report of a dog bite in western Independence.

A resident in the 1400 block of Home Avenue called police about 4:15 p.m. Friday to say that their dog had bitten a family member, or possibly more than one, according to police spokesman Tom Gentry.

Gentry said when police arrived, the German shepherd bit two officers. Gentry said a shot was fired, and police had the dog trapped inside a police car.
