TEXAS -- A Deer Park homeowner blamed his neighbor’s pit bulls for a home invasion that nearly took the life of a family pet.
“These dogs are crazy,” said Michael Trahan, as he surveyed the backyard fence where the two pit bulls had crawled through Tuesday night. “They broke all these pickets trying to come through, and this is the doggy door they came through.”

Trahan said once inside, the dogs proceeded to attack his dashound named Ginger.
“They cut her between her shoulder and left a big gash,” said Trahan.

The Trahans Rottweiler scared the pit bulls away.
Animal control officers arrived within minutes. They gave the owner of the pit bulls a ticket and let him take his dogs back home.
It was a decision Trahan strongly disagreed with.
“I want to know why they let him keep the dogs. That’s like putting a Band-Aid on someone who’s gotten their arm cut off,” he said.

The owner of the pit bulls said his dogs were just misunderstood.
“They’re people dogs,” said Jason Colvin. “They’re friendly. They’re going to go in your house. They’re not there to eat anybody.”

Deer Park Police said the pit bulls would likely be designated as dangerous dogs, meaning they could be seized if they ever attacked again.
In the meantime, Trahan has been left with an $800 vet bill and a doggie door he now has to barricade shut.
“I’m scared to death to go out in my backyard,” he said.
