ILLINOIS -- A 44-year-old man was killed by his pet pit bull and later found by his wife with the dog on top of him, gnawing at his neck.
Charles Hagerman has multiple injuries consistent with a dog attack. His death was ruled accidental following an autopsy, Cook County medical examiner's office told MailOnline today.
Mr Hagerman was discovered at 8.15pm on Wednesday lying in the living room of the couple's home on the south side of Chicago.
Mr Hagerman had a bite wound to his neck and his body was covered in lacerations.
Police were trying to determine if one or both of the couple's two dogs attacked him.
Chicago Police offered no further details on the death when contacted by MailOnline today.
Cook County Medical Examiner said Mr Hagerman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The couple's two dogs were taken away by Animal Care and Control personnel.
