Pack of dogs kills pair of cats

TEXAS -- A pack of dogs, possibly as many as 10 mixed-breeds, have killed two cats, prompting a woman to warn her neighbors.

Nancy Horton, 64, said the number of dogs in the pack that she saw roaming the area in the last week has increased. She counted 10 in her yard on 63rd Street south of Broadway early Tuesday morning.

“A dog barked and woke me up,” Horton said. “I looked over my rail and my yard was full of dogs.”

The dogs killed one of her cats and a neighbor’s cat, Horton said.

Horton called Galveston police, but officers were unable to find the dogs.

“This is a major crisis in our neighborhood,” Horton said.

Police took a complaint and an animal services officer went to the neighborhood later Tuesday morning. The officer didn’t see any dogs, said Lt. Joel Caldwell, head of the police department’s Animal Services Unit.

The officer would provide a dog trap for the complainant, Caldwell said.
