Pit Bulls Attack Family Pet, Threaten Neighbor

TEXAS -- A group of neighbors say their streets are being terrorized by a pack of pit bulls. This morning those dogs threatened a woman and killed a family pet.

The sight of their dead dog brought a family to tears. Animal control arrived and picked up their dead dog, Ringo. The owner of the dog was too distraught to talk, but her son did. "She's had him about 5 or 6 years now," said the man who identified himself only as Eric.

His daughters were at the home, playing with Ringo just minutes before his death. "The kids let him out to use the restroom, they normally let him out and he runs back inside," he said.

Fortunately, he says his daugthers were not outside with Ringo when the attack happened. "No they didn't see, the neighbor is the one who saw," Eric told us.

"They attacked him pretty bad," Neighbor ricardo Ramirez described, "he didn't have a chance at all."

Neighbors tell us the dogs first ran after Ramirezes' mother-in-law sitting in her front yard. "They came after the old lady for no reason, so she's lucky she made it inside," said Eric. When she was safe inside, the dogs ran across the street where they attacked Ringo, right in his very own front yard.

Animal control picked up the pets with help from the owner, who would not talk to us on camera.

Officer michael mazano responded to the call for help today and it's a home he already was familiar with. He responded just 3 weeks ago to help ATF agents with a raid.

In our video from that raid, we spotted the same woman who refused to speak to us today.

"This is actually the second time these dogs have been taken by animal control probably within this month," Manzano said.

During that raid, animal control took them so they wouldn't be left behind alone. This time, after paying citations and bringing them up to compliance, they can be right back out again.

That has neighbors, and even law enforcement, concerned.

"They attacked the dog, next time it might be a kid," said Ramirez.

We asked Sr. Officer Manzano this question: "Would you be worried to have your children walking around those dogs," his response; "of course, who wouldn't... Definitely."

No word from animal control yet over exactly which citations the owner of the dogs would face, but officers on the scene said they would ask the owner to have a secured with trolly system in addition to having up-to-date vaccines and dog houses for the pets.

[The video clip says that at the time of the news story airing, the DOGS HAD ALREADY BEEN RETURNED TO THE OWNERS!!!]
