OREGON -- Law enforcement and animal control removed dozens of animals from a farm. They found several animals locked up and some dead.
Deputies served a search warrant on a residence on the 1700 block on White schoolhouse road. The owner’s son, Robert Crow, says he doesn’t understand why animal control is at the farm. He says his family rescues and takes care of the animals.
“What did we do to deserve this? You know? We help the community out, we do everything we can and now I don’t get it,” says Crow.
But the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office thinks otherwise.
“We heard that animals were left alone. Dead animals when we got out here. That’s exactly what we found,” says Sheriff Gil Gilbertson.
Deputies also found evidence that animals died in the hands of Crow and his mother.
Crow says his mother is recovering from a surgery and other family members were in charge of taking care of the animals.
“When you have so many animals, yes, you have some deaths. Yes, they should be taken care of. When you have a 17 year-old son that okay, it’s your job to do this and do that, sometimes it doesn’t get done,” says Crow.
But the sheriff says that’s not a good enough reason.
“If you’re going to have animals, you need to take proper care of them and it obviously didn’t happen here,” says Sheriff Gilbertson.
Animal control says it plans to take all of the animals to a safe shelter. Crow’s mother could be facing charges of animal abuse and neglect.
