Bees Swarm Canines in Southeast Travis County

TEXAS -- Two dogs are being treated after being attacked by aggressive bees in Southeast Travis County Saturday afternoon.

According to Travis County Fire and Rescue officials, firefighters responded to 10205 Lava Lane around 5:00 p.m. in response to a bee swarm and possible attack.

Crews arrived and found a Yellow Labrador covered in bees in a backyard.

He was rescued from the yard, but firefighters said he was in pretty bad shape. Before safely handing over the canine to his owner, firefighters put water on him to cool him down. He was also experiencing some breathing problems. The dog’s owner took the dog to the vet for care.

Luke Bess with Travis County Fire and Rescue says upon further investigation, several hives were noted to be active in the area. In fact, several beekeepers were in the area attempting to remove the bee hives.

Fire crews left the scene, only to return a short time later to help rescue another canine covered in bees. The dog was rescued from a field where it was being attacked. Rescuers hosed the dog down and were able to take it to a vet for care.
