Wisconsin: Dog attack suspect has pending assault case

WISCONSIN -- A man accused of using a dog to intimidate and attack an 18-year-old man over the weekend is accused in an unrelated case of allowing his dog to attack a woman.

The 58-year-old town of Osceola man was arrested after repeatedly letting his dog attack the 18-year-old during a dispute at his Greenwood Lane home on Aug. 31. He faces charges of false imprisonment, aggravated battery and negligent handling of a dangerous weapon.

The man is expected to make an initial court appearance today, along with the father of the victim in the Aug. 31 attack. The Reporter will name the men after they have been formally charged.

The man is also charged with physical abuse of a child after allegedly choking and punching a 13-year-old boy when the boy tried to stop the town of Osceola man’s pit bull from attacking the boy’s mother.

According to the criminal complaint, the man was arguing with the boy’s mother at his home on April 23. The boy told police he heard the dog barking upstairs and when he entered the kitchen, he saw his mother cornered by a pit bull. It is unclear whether or not this was the same dog involved in the Aug. 31 incident.

The boy allegedly picked the dog up by the neck and collar area, lifting the animal off the ground in an attempt to control the dog and prevent it from biting his mother again.

While the boy was holding the dog, the man allegedly grabbed the boy around the neck and punched him in the face, according to the complaint.

The boy’s 15-year-old sister subsequently took the dog outside. The town of Osceola man followed the boy and continued to strike him in the chest and stomach area, according to the complaint.

The boy’s sister told police the man stood by and watched while his dog repeatedly bit the woman on the arms and hand and did nothing to prevent the animal from attacking her.

The woman told police she was boiling cabbage on a stove when the smoke alarm went off, causing the dog to begin biting her, according to the complaint.

The woman told investigators the “dog gets mad when (the man) gets mad … not a good combination,” according to the complaint.
