Owners mourn dog pulled from pipe

VIRGINIA -- An elderly dog who was trapped inside of a pipe for two days and rescued Thursday has passed away.

Tim Kelley with the City of Suffolk says Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Animal Control responded to rescue the family pet that was trapped in a 17-inch underground pipe in the 1600 block of Copeland Road.

The dog was reported missing by its owners Tuesday, Aug. 28. The pipe was on the owners' property.

Kelley says 'Prissy', a Sheltie breed suffering from brain cancer, was saved by Fire and Rescue personnel who hand-dug a three-foot hole to reach her.

Prissy suffered trauma during the time underground and was put down while at the veterinarian's office on the same day of the rescue.
