Two women jailed after attack on trooper

NEW YORK -- Two Massena women were sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on Sunday after they allegedly attacked a state trooper who was trying to arrest them when he responded to a dog nuisance complaint.

Angela M. Wilson, 17, of 231 S. Grasse River Road, Massena, was charged with second-degree harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. She is accused of pushing, shoving and kicking Trooper Luis Cruz as he attempted to make an arrest.

Rosemary M. Wilson, 44, same address, was charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration for allegedly jumping on Trooper Cruz’s back as he was trying to arrest Angela Wilson.

She additionally was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and a violation of dog control procedures for allegedly failing to confine her two dogs, which reportedly chased horses, goats and attempted to destroy some rabbits.

They were arraigned by Massena Justice Gerald P. Sharlow and sent to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail each.

Animal control officer Hughy R. Blain said in a statement he signed for police that he had received a call at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday about two dogs chasing livestock at 240 S. Grasse River Road. He said he responded and picked up two German shepherds. He said a woman was bit on the hand as she tried to stop one of the dogs from attacking her rabbits.

Mr. Blain called the state police, and as Trooper Cruz arrived on the scene to interview the residents, Angela Wilson and Rosemary Wilson pulled into the driveway and started making threats and screaming profanities at them, according to Mr. Blain’s statement.

“I heard Trooper Cruz yell that (Angela Wilson) was under arrest and all hell broke loose,” Mr. Blain said. “I saw that both women were hitting and pushing Trooper Cruz as he tried to arrest them.
Trooper Cruz yelled at me to call for back up.”

The fight continued for a while and the trooper took both women away in handcuffs as they screamed obscenities, according to Mr. Blain.
