Hartford City pet owner charged in dog-bite attack

INDIANA -- A Hartford City woman faces the possibility of jail time and fines after being criminally charged over an incident that saw her dog bite a pedestrian.

Larra S. Spahr, 30, 524 S. Main St., was charged Thursday with dog bite liability, a Class C misdemeanor carrying a maximum 60-day jail term and $500 fine, and harboring a non-immunized dog, a Class B misdemeanor with a maximum 180-day sentence and $1,000 fine.

Authorities said Spahr’s dog, Constantine, was able to escape from her car on Sept. 4 and bit a woman walking near the Dollar General Store at 1304 N. Walnut St.

The biting was “without provocation,” the charging document alleges. The harboring charge alleges Constantine had not had rabies shots.

An initial hearing is set Oct. 23 in Blackford Superior Court.
