Man charged with shooting horse

FLORIDA -- A Sneads man was arrested on a charge of animal abuse after allegedly shooting a horse that wandered into his sweet potato field.

According to the complaint filed against him, 30-year-old Robert Eric Cloud admitted shooting the horse and directed officers to the 12-guage shotgun he had used. From his truck, officials recovered the Remington and a box with some 12-guage shells, No. 8 shot.

The shooting took place in Cloud’s potato field on Sand Ridge Church Road, not far from his home.

The officer who responded to the call, reported an incident that he saw “at least 30 shots to the horse on its right side.”

Pellets had penetrated the skin, the officer reported, and some were still lodged there. The officer recovered one pellet from under the skin of the horse and bagged it as evidence.

The complaint did not include further information on the condition of the horse.
