Officer shoots pit bull attacking family’s dog

NORTH CAROLINA -- A Rock Hill police officer fired two shots at a pit bull that wrapped its jaw around another dog’s neck and wouldn’t let go Friday afternoon.

Police were called to a Hough Circle home around 5:40 p.m. where two women said a stray pit bull started attacking their neighbor’s dog that was chained in the backyard of the home, according to a Rock Hill police report.

The women said they tried unsuccessfully to separate the two dogs, the report states. Police saw the pit bull take the chained dog to the ground by its throat.

After several attempts to get the pit bull to let go, the officer fired two shots into the attacking dog, the report states.

York County Animal Control picked up the dog, which wasn’t fatally shot, said Steven Stuber, animal control director. It was later euthanized.
