Seymour boy, 14, arrested in bow-and-arrow shooting of dog

TENNESSEE -- A 14-year-old Sevier County boy has been arrested and charged in connection using a bow and arrow to shoot a Golden Retriever who later was euthanized because of her injuries.

According to a news release from Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals, the Seymour juvenile was charged with aggravated animal cruelty. He was turned over to Sevier County authorities for a hearing to be scheduled at a later date.

On Aug. 28, the lost dog, whose owners said was named "Allie," was found with an arrow protruding from her side at the Speedway Market on Maryville Highway (U.S. 411 North). She was taken to a local veterinarian clinic; it could not save her due to her injuries. Animal control officer Phil King with the Sevier County Sheriff's Office investigated, learning that a juvenile was seen with a bow and arrow in the area.

Seals said that King interviewed the teen today and the boy admitted to shooting the dog with the arrow.
