Wisconsin: Pit bull from the Lakeshore Humane Society is deemed adoptable so the shelter sends it off to a foster home. It gets loose and attacks 2 children near Madison Elementary School.

WISCONSIN -- Two children were bitten by a pit bull near Madison Elementary School on Monday, according to Lt. Jim Schweigl of the Manitowoc Police Department.

Police received a call shortly before 8:30 a.m. about a child being bitten by the dog and later learned that another child had been bitten by the same dog, he said.

The Lakeshore Humane Society owns the pit bull. They had apparently deemed the dog adoptable and sent it off to live at a foster home while they tried to find someone willing to adopt it. The pit bull escaped from the foster home in the 600 block of North Fifth Street to attack whatever it found. Unfortunately it was the children.

The first victim was treated at the scene by Manitowoc Fire Department Rescue Squad personnel and taken to Aurora Medical Center for further treatment.

The second victim suffered puncture wounds to her body and was treated at the school.

The dog was removed from the residence and taken to the humane society by its members.

I guarantee you they didn't put the dog down. They quietly sent it to another shelter/rescue or foster to quietly adopt it out - if they haven't already. It may be living next door to you right now!

The owner of the residence was cited for having a biting/attacking dog and for having a dog at large.
