Woman faces animal abuse charges

WISCONSIN -- A dozen cats and dogs are found apparently abandoned at a home and now a Dunn County woman faces charges.

Investigators were called to the home last month after the animals were discovered. The residents had been evicted a week to 12 days earlier.

Deputies found two dogs in a shed, connected to chains hanging from rafters. That meant the dogs were only able to walk in a two-foot circle due to the length of the chains. Prosecutors say they had no food and only one had access to water which was contained in a swimming pool.

Ten cats were found in the house. Deputies say the basement carpet was covered with feces.   They say there did not appear to be enough food or water for the large number of cats.

This week, charges were filed against Melissa Patton of Downing. She's accused of animal mistreatment, abandonment, and failing to provide proper food and water.
